Crewclass celebrates it's first anniversary
12th Apr 2012
Since
its inception, Crewclass has encountered nothing but positive support from the
industry as a whole, its industry partners, and the attendees themselves.
Simon
received a lot of input and support from leading crewing company Showforce
during the development of the 1 day course, and also incorporated the TMA's
Code of Conduct for Safe Get ins/ get outs into the content.
Two
early champions of the Crewclass concept were Stage Jobs Pro, who immediately
came on board with advertising and awareness support, and freelance writer and
industry expert AK Bennet- Hunter, who sat in on the first training event. He
immediately saw the value of the Course, and wrote an enthusiastic piece in The Stage Technical Training Supplement (PDF) in May of last year
Other
Industry leaders who have dropped in on the day include Tom Mannings of the
ABTT, who referred to the engaging presentation of need-to-know information as
"brilliance", and highly regarded world touring guitar tech
"Deptford" John Armitage, who was effusive with praise.
Crewclass
then joined The National Skills Academy
Creative & Cultural, in the process committing to "recognising,
developing, and improving skills opportunities for the creative and cultural
workforce!
Recently,
a West London College discovered Crewclass online, sat in on a day session, and
approached Simon offering him the position of teacher of Technical Theatre at
BTEC level 3. This has resulted in Crewclass establishing itself in the Further
Education System, as well as operating independently to private attendees.
The
latest news is that the National Skills Academy CC Skills has been tasked to
define a set of National Occupational Standards for backstage workers in the
Live Events Industry. To achieve this they have appointed a panel of which
Simon is a member. Crewclass is now contributing to the definition of National
Occupational Standards in the Industry!
Crewclass
looks forward to a fantastic second year. It has just joined the Association of
British Theatre Technicians and is looking forward to an exciting 2012 conference at The Old Truman
Brewery, London, on 13th & 14th June 2012.
