ABTT NorthNet's recent visit to Doncaster
28th Oct 2013
NorthNet's latest excursion for members featured 3 venues in Doncaster; first the new 22 million "Cast" Theatre, with 620 seats in a traditional lyric theatretogether withversatile 400 capacity studio, dance and drama studios, plus a range of associated facilities, all housed in a state of the art RHWL / Charcoalblue project. The second venue was the 100 seat "Little Theatre" nearby which has built an enviable reputation in its 18 year existence within a converted commercial unit. Now mid-way through a 5 year Lottery Grant funding two staff, it has a thriving outreach to schools, job seekers and non-theatre goers, offering a dynamic mix of new and contemporary works. The none-availability, due to H & S concerns from the current ownersof the "Grand Theatre" meant a change of plan. This traditional 1898 J.P.Briggs house, currently dark, gave the hard-working "Friends of the Grand" the opportunity to give a presentation at the "Little Theatre" on the history, the current situation and their aspirations for the future of this Grade 2 listed building, which they hope to purchase and restore.
